Caring for Silk: The Complete Barakah Guide

Caring for Silk: The Complete Barakah Guide

Silk rewards care. Treated well, a good scarf outlives trends and becomes the piece you reach for again and again. Treated carelessly, it dulls within a season. The difference is a handful of simple habits.

To wash, use cool water and a drop of pH-neutral detergent. Never wring; press the water out gently between two towels and dry flat, away from direct sun. Heat and harsh light are silk’s two quiet enemies.

For storage, roll rather than fold to avoid permanent creases, and keep it away from wood surfaces that can leach acids over time. A breathable cotton pouch is perfect; plastic traps moisture and should be avoided.

Travelling? Roll the scarf around a sheet of acid-free tissue and it will arrive ready to wear. With this routine your silk scarf will look its best not for one season, but for decades.
