Caring for Fine Fabrics: The Complete Barakah Guide

Caring for Fine Fabrics: The Complete Barakah Guide

A delicate fabric rewards proper care. Treated well, a fine piece outlives passing trends and becomes the one you reach for again and again. Treated carelessly, it dulls within a season. The difference comes down to a handful of simple habits.

To wash, use cool water and a small amount of pH-neutral detergent. Never wring the fabric; instead, press the water out gently between two towels and dry flat, away from direct sunlight. Heat and harsh light are a fine fabric's two greatest risks.

For storage, roll rather than fold to avoid permanent creases, and keep pieces away from wood surfaces, which can leach acids over time. A breathable cotton pouch is ideal; plastic traps moisture and should be avoided.

When travelling, roll the piece around a sheet of acid-free tissue paper so it arrives ready to wear. With this routine, your finer pieces will look their best not for one season, but for decades.
